Biotech startup Strateos™, partnered with Zemoso labs to add new features and expand to their offering.

CORE CHALLENGEs

Strateos needed to enable scale, efficiency, and accuracy in drug discovery through robotic labs that increase productivity and reproducibility while improving the scientist and lab technician experience. The partnership set out to improve customer experience and internal processing efficiency, accelerate new customer acquisition and onboarding, and enable a new product line: automated synthetic chemistry.

the engineering approach

Zemoso Labs initiated the process with self-organized agile pods aimed at quickly aligning with stakeholders and minimizing uncertainties for both the business and customers. Each team functioned as an integral extension of a product manager, employing modern agile practices.

  • Aligned, integrated delivery: Agile-certified managers and technical leads trained in Zemoso Labs' proprietary process ran mapping workshops with key Strateos stakeholders to align with their architecture, processes, and deployment methodologies. This ensured both acceleration and seamless integration with existing teams, designs, and code, with teams working as one, eliminating any distinction between Zemoso Labs and Strateos and driving toward shared goals with strong accountability.
  • Ensuring seamless integration and communication: In addition to regular agile ceremonies like grooming, stand-ups, and retrospectives, continuous communication and reporting were maintained for early course correction. Workshops for internal user story mapping and journey mapping were conducted to ensure rapid integration of Zemoso Labs' agile teams as an extension of Strateos's teams.
  • Continuous improvement of metrics: Metrics such as team velocity, test coverage, and feature coverage were continuously monitored and shared with project managers to identify opportunities for improvement. Debriefing sessions were held with Strateos's engineering leadership and product/project management to discuss actions taken to accelerate execution.
  • Incremental builds and releases: Operating within a full CI/CD pipeline, Strateos continuously releases updates, which are periodically reviewed with customers for feedback. Zemoso Labs aligned with this environment by delivering continuous features with a high degree of quality, working closely with Strateos engineers.
bottom line

By embedding Zemoso's agile pods directly into Strateos's existing architecture and processes - with shared ceremonies, continuously tracked velocity metrics, and incremental CI/CD releases - the team helped Strateos differentiate on scientist experience while onboarding new customers and shipping a complex new feature set.
